Information management is a critical task for these laboratories and laboratory productivity, accuracy and control are usually greatly increased with improved information processing capabilities. A Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) is the industry standard application used to manage quality data and manage the quality assurance laboratory function. The use of a LIMS facilitates the organisation and standardisation of routine operations within the laboratory. In addition a LIMS offers the potential to automate routine laboratory tasks such as printing labels, checking results, performing calculations, producing reports, and generating certificates of analysis. LabHQ Limited was innovated by the management team of Broughton Laboratories Limited, a small independent analytical laboratory, in order to develop and commercially market a suitable LIMS.
